A women’s cricket club, established in 1925, and one of the early teams leading the way in developing women players of all standards up to county and international levels. This year, Gunnersbury became the first independent women’s club in the UK – possibly the world – to reach their centenary.
We were asked to design a special Gunns centenary kit, which is very different from the original 1925 uniform (white dress, green and gold tie, white shoes, and long socks) but does contain a nod to history, with shirt side panels featuring the names of former Gunns stalwarts. Over the years, the club has been home to four England captains – Molly Hide, Cecilia Robinson, Mary Duggan and Charlotte Edwards – and countless other international stars. The honour of the oldest living Gunn goes to 93-year-old Anne Sanders, who represented England in 11 Tests between 1954 and 1969.
“MCCF are proud to be partnering with Lacuna Sports as part of our 2024 Springboard Programme. Lacuna’s commitment to supporting women and girls in the game means that we can provide our female participants with kit which is designed for them. Ensuring everyone feels comfortable when they take to the field is paramount in breaking down barriers that exist for girls in cricket. We are delighted to be working with such an innovative partner and look forward seeing how we can continue to make the game more inclusive.”
Angus Berry, Operations Director MCCF
The club opted for both Spin and Pace tops and trousers, shorts and a Boundary sweater, which we developed for the club and it is now part of our teamwear range.
Several girls also have our new sports hijabs in the Gunns colours.
“Total flexibility on design, great and thoughtful ideas, quick response times to queries, made ordering as user friendly for club as possible. Bespoke design service is amazing, colours are really vibrant and dealing with people who care about what they are doing really shines through!”
– Emma Bernstein, Gunnersbury Women’s Cricket Club
The club left the decisions to the girls themselves, and they selected their favourite design and pieces to suit the various ages (11-16) in the programme.
Both Spin and Pace designs in tops and trousers were provided, so each girl has their perfect fit. A Ponyflo cap with a club logo patch made a nice option for some of the younger girls who wanted a piece of kit but didn’t quite need teamwear yet. A lovely turquoise cotton hoodie was offered as well as a piece of training wear, and girls of all ages have loved the colour.
“Your personal service and fitting session. The kit looks great and love our bespoke design.
Very special for our 100th year! Thank you.”
