Inclusive Sportswear Charter

This month saw Lacuna Sports pledge its support to an exciting development within inclusive sportswear as Tess Howard MBE OLY launched the Inclusive Sportswear Charter – the first sports clothing standard based on inclusion and choice.

The goal is for sports kit policy to never be a barrier to participation, with a singular mission: to enable choice and comfort at every level of sport.

The Inclusive Sportswear Charter’s five key principles:

  1. Enable participation, performance, enjoyment and belonging
  2. Choice & Empowerment
  3. Comfort & Practicality
  4. Identity & Expression
  5. Collaboration

With Lacuna Sports unwavering commitment to support all women and girls in cricket, whatever their heritage, race, size, age, ability, or experience, it was an easy decision for the brand to offer up its support of the Charter.

Lacuna Sports Founder Leigh Burns comments: “As a brand born inclusive – the original pioneers of cricket wear designed specifically for women and girls – Lacuna Sports welcomes the Inclusive Sportswear Charter from Tess Howard MBE OLY as a vital call to action for improved policy and practices across the sports sector.

Having witnessed first hand the struggles girls face in ill-fitting men’s and unisex kit, we remain unwavering in our commitment to producing sportswear that makes every girl feel comfortable, confident, and empowered to focus on their performance. It’s incredibly rewarding to see six years of our research, knowledge, and meticulous fitting processes come to life as FairBreak, The Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), The 1, and the Apex Festival choose Lacuna as their female kit provider.

This Charter arrives at an exciting moment as the inclusive sportswear movement continues to build momentum – and if it inspires more schools and brands across different sports to embrace inclusivity, that’s a powerful step forward for positive change in the sporting world.”

Founder Tess Howard MBE OLY says of Lacuna’s support, ‘I am thrilled Lacuna Sports is one of our first pledges to the Inclusive Sportswear Charter. Together we are collectively putting a flag in the ground to signal this is the future of sports and PE kit policy. We will ensure choice and comfort comes first at all levels of sport.’
