Bat For A Chance provides kit to underprivileged players across the world, helping to grow the game more widely whilst spreading joy from playing the game.
Founded in 2020 by young cricketer Will Gaffney, the charity has made a profound impact since its formation. Its Cricket for Social Change (CSC) programs are breaking down barriers to sport in some of the world’s most deprived regions. Recent initiatives include the
establishment of a girls’ cricket club in the Caribbean, the refurbishment of cricket bats in Sri Lanka in partnership with the Foundation of Goodness, and collaborations with international cricketing bodies to promote the game and its social benefits. Leigh’s appointment, alongside Jamie Lowe, Mike Webb and Dan Imison, strengthens the charity’s leadership as it enters its next phase of growth and impact.
Lacuna Sports founder Leigh Burns said, “I’m honoured to be appointed to the Board of Trustees for Bat For A Chance. They recognise that cricket can be used as a tool for education, skill development, and social inclusion. It was founded on a belief that playing cricket has the ability to change lives in so many ways. This is so closely aligned with my own passion to foster inclusivity through cricket, and offers a circular option to prevent
cricket kit and equipment waste.”
Bat For A Chance Chair, Omar Khan, expressed his excitement about the new appointments, “I’m delighted to welcome Leigh to Bat For A Chance. She has been a long-time advocate for female cricketers and as a trustee, I know she will passionately champion the needs of female athletes across our diverse range of projects. The combined experience of our new trustees will enable us to take Bat For A Chance to new heights. Together, we will continue to use cricket as a force for good, reaching more communities and helping more young people around the world.”
